Jan 2018
Unless otherwise specified in the course introductory pack, the fees for the CCAT residential and classroom-based courses includes lunch plus morning and afternoon refreshments, all tuition and venue costs, practical classes and, on some courses, the costs of external visits, coach transfers, flying experience, conference pack, and a copy of the course textbook. All our training courses are subject to UK corporation tax.
2. Do I have to be resident during the course?
2. Do I have to be resident during the course?
Jan 2018
Accommodation is not compulsory but the course programs are long and intensive and many CCAT participants remain on campus or nearby for the duration of the course(s). We can suggest or arrange accommodation for those interested, however, the cost is not included in the advertised fees and there is no refund for those that choose not to be resident after paying for their accommodation supplement. This is because both the University of Surrey and Cumberland Lodge charge us the full residential costs for each participant regardless of whether or not they use the booked accommodation and catering facilities.
3. If I cancel my accommodation late, but after I have paid for it, can I claim a refund?
3. If I cancel my accommodation late, but after I have paid for it, can I claim a refund?

If you’re are staying in an external hotel or B&B, this will depend on your booking conditions. For University and Lodge accommodation, unfortunately no refund can be given. The accommodation costs are paid to the University/Lodge in advance and they have a no-refund policy for late cancellations. However, it may be that a delegate booking after you may take over your accommodation, so it is worth asking.

9. How do I claim CME or CPD hours?
9. How do I claim CME or CPD hours?
Jan 2018
CME/CPD credit is claimed via the UK medical Royal Colleges. You will be notified prior to the start of the course how many CME/CPD credits are available (College rules are changing almost annually at present). On successful completion of the course, a CCAT certificate will be awarded and may be used as proof of attendance. A timetable of the week's educational program is issued at the start of the course and may be requested by your College. CCAT maintains a register of all participants for College inspections, and you, for your part, must complete an evaluation form which is used to identify both the strengths and weaknesses of the course.
10. Are PREP points available?
10. Are PREP points available?
Jan 2018
CCAT may help fulfil UK PREP requirements in the following categories: care enhancement, education development and practice development. However, it would be wise to seek advice early. Information on PREP points in the UK is available from the NMC Registration Department on +44 207 333 9333. Nurses wishing to use CCAT to fulfil part of their PREP requirements are required to complete a portfolio of the learning they have achieved, both in preparation for, and during, the course.
11. Are CATS points available?
11. Are CATS points available?
Jan 2018
Information on UK CATS points should be sought from your university registration department. Those requiring CATS points will be required to provide a complete portfolio showing evidence of study. Each portfolio is individually assessed towards accreditation for a diploma or degree.
12. Can I pay a deposit to secure my place on the course?
12. Can I pay a deposit to secure my place on the course?
Jan 2018
Only in exceptional circumstances. Normally you will be required to pay the full amount in advance so that University fees and other pre-bookable costs can be paid on your behalf before the course starts.
13. What is your cancellation policy?
Dec 2021
Cancellation prior to 90 days before the start date of a course entitles you to a full refund. Cancellation within the period 31 to 89 days before the start date of the course entitles you to receive a 50 percent refund, but we regret that no refunds will be given for cancellations in the 30 days immediately before the start of the course. Any entitled refunds may also be subject to a 10% charge (of the fees originally paid). This charge may be enforced because there are only a limited number of places on the CCAT suite of courses and the fees and costs are calculated so that the course is essentially non-profit making. Unfilled places may lead to a financial loss. To avoid this, cancellations usually require further advertising to resell the cancelled place. Unfortunately, late cancellations are almost impossible to fill, hence the zero refund.
As an alternative to a refund, applicants applying for cancellation may be offered a place on the next available course at no extra charge.
14. If I have to cancel, can I apply for a place on the next course or study day?
14. If I have to cancel, can I apply for a place on the next course or study day?
Dec 2021
Yes. As an alternative to a refund, applicants applying for a late cancellation with loss of entitlement to a refund will be offered a place on the next available course at no extra charge. This offer only applies to rebookings on the next available similar course or study day.
15. I have no aeromedical experience. Can I still attend the course?
15. I have no aeromedical experience. Can I still attend the course?
Jan 2018
Both the CCAT FL and the HMFC courses are multidisciplinary, in other words we have all grades, levels and specialties of health care professionals on the courses. It’s important to state that the course workload is intensive and some of the material is at a high level. However, the important things are:
• We teach you in teams, because that's how you work in the air ambulance/aeromedical role.
• Everyone starts with the basic level of training and we build up the skills and knowledge so that everybody progresses at the same rate.
• We use facilitated teaching where the groups are of mixed level of ability. In that way, the 'advanced' students lead and teach those that might be struggling.
• Everybody sits the same tests and it is rare for a delegate to fail, although there are different levels of success.
• The certificate does not specify your final grade, only that you have successfully attended the course.
16. What are the requirements for me to join the CCAT FL and/or HMFC course(s)?
Dec 2021
The only requirements before joining the course is that you undertake a period of pre-course study to prepare yourself for the intense days either in the classroom or online (live webinars). We will send you a number of study packs, each containing reading material and a self-assessment short answer test paper. We anticipate that each pack will take about 2-3 hours to complete.
17. What are the requirements for me to join the CCAT Intermediate and Advanced Level courses?
Jan 2018
We strongly advise you to sit the CCAT FL course before attending the CCAT Intermediate and Advanced courses. Without doing so, you would be at risk of failing to understand or follow the more advanced principles in the more complex learning scenarios and case studies. Exemptions for those delegates with evidence of training and qualification from elsewhere may be considered.
18. What are the requirements for me to join the CCAT study days?
Jan 2018
There are no pre-conditions for attending the stand-alone Study Days. Everyone is welcome.
19. How do I apply/register for my course/study day?
Dec 2021
Send an email stating the course(s) and/or study day(s) that you wish to attend and we will send you a registration form to complete. Please note full payment is always due before the start of the course so do check to see if you are eligible for an earlybird discount. This is only available on selected training packages, such as the CCAT FL, IL, AL and HMFC courses.
Your place will only be guaranteed after your full payment has been received, although if you have difficulty paying early, we will hold a place open for you and let you know when the final six places are about to be released.
20. I'm coming from overseas, can I get a tax refund?
Jan 2018
We are legally bound to charge the appropriate taxes on all courses taught in the UK and other individual countries under their local laws. Some countries allow sales taxes to be reclaimed at the port of exit of the country as long as the claimant does not live in that country but CCAT Aeromedical Training courses are currently not subject to, nor registered for sales tax (VAT). Please ask your local tax office or border control for your specific circumstances.
